WELCOMING PEOPLE WO LOVE THE LAKES FOR OVER 100 YEARS
People have been staying at The Mount since it was built in 1906. Many of our guests have been returning for years, some even over decades. We have met an evacuee from World War 11 who sort safety in Room 2 (one of our favourite B&B rooms!). The location, the views and the warm Lakeland welcome bring people back again and again.
We ask our guests what they love about The Mount. They say: the breakfasts with fabulous local produce, the views, the easy parking, the art, the fabulous showers, the delicious toiletries from Pure Lakes. With walks from the door, perfect for dog-walkers and lots of great advice on the best places to eat, swim, cycle and park – it is a fantastic boutique bed and breakfast near Catbells, Skiddaw and other Wainwright walks in the Lake District.
In the school holidays (summer, Easter, Christmas and New Year) you can hire the whole house. The beautiful lounge, well-equipped kitchen, gorgeous gardens and elegant dining room make this the perfect holiday-let in the lakes for groups of up to 10 (and add in the shepherds hut for groups of 11).
Throughout the guest house we have art we have collected from around the world, from my childhood in Fiji and Kenya, to our lives together in Brighton and London, as well as from some amazing lake district artists like Maria Burton and Pat Cremer.
Keswick is full of dog-friendly cafes, pubs and shops – and there are lots of great walks for dogs in the area. Our aim is to make your dog feel ever so welcome! Keswick parking is not always easy, so leave the car in our car park and enjoy the views on the easy stroll to Keswick, or take the boat round the lake to Keswick. But it is also nice to stay in the very peaceful Cumbrian village of Portinscale, and escape from the hustle and bustle of Lake District towns. Here you really have the best of both worlds.
Yes – we do take cats! Our two Burmese cats also love living here, although they are kept out of the guest rooms. We request that guests who suffer from allergies be aware that there are friendly cats walking around the premises.
