Portinscale is a fabulous place for a Lake District holiday. It has all the charm of a peaceful village with easy parking, great cafes and a good pub while only a short walk from the vibrant town of Keswick with some top notch restaurants and the cultural highlights of The Theatre by the Lake (link), the Alhambra cinema (link) and street markets.
Whether it’s fell walking, wild swimming, good food, scenic drives, cream teas or good ales you are after – it’s all on the doorstep.

The place to stay in Portinscale
according to amazing reviews on Sawdays and TripAdvisor
The Mount has plenty of luxurious touches, but still feels warm, inviting and comfortable. I loved the views of the old cottages of Portinscale, not to mention the lake and mountain scenery that can be seen from every bedroom! Caroline and Clive seem to really enjoy sharing their home and their love of The Lakes with all who visit them. I recommend The Mount for a very happy holiday in a beautiful place from which to explore the Lake District.

We spent a few days at this beautifully situated B&B whilst we walked some more of the Wainwrights. On arrival we were greeted by Caroline and Clive who were very friendly and extremely helpful, especially when it comes to their knowledge of routes over the mountains. Our room overlooked the rear of the property and had a fantastic view of Skiddaw. Everything in room was clean and tidy with a really nice bathroom. We were spoilt for choice with the breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn’t believe anyone who said they left feeling hungry.

3 generations of our family stayed at the Mount for 5 days in mid August, to celebrate a birthday and spend time in the great outdoors. We were very, very fortunate with the weather. We were even more fortunate with the Mount. It is absolutely fantastic. Caroline and Clive are the perfect hosts. They've created a beautiful place to stay - spacious, light, and a wonderful blend of the traditional (some great bits of early 20th century furniture) and the very modern (the bathrooms are superb). Their attention to detail is astonishing - every guidebook and map you could dream of, lovely art spread all round, Lakeland soaps, glorious welcome basket full of local and homemade goodies.

We stayed at The Mount over the Easter and Clive and Caroline were perfect hosts. The B&B is gorgeous and the rooms are really tastefully decorated with comfortable beds, luxurious bedding and great showers. Our room even had a view of the lake which was wonderful. The sausages cooked in the Aga the next morning were extra tasty. The Mount is a perfect spot to enjoy the Lakes and picturesque Portinscale is only a short walk to Keswick. I have no hesitation in recommending this B&B and will be visiting again very soon! I wish Clive and Caroline every success for the future.

We have just returned from an 8 night stay, we were a party of 10 ranging from ages 10 to 74. The accommodation was first class, very welcoming, homely, spacious (we all loved the dining room which could easily accommodate all 10 of us when we had meals). It was filled with lots of information, and activities/games perfect for family time, with many personal touches. Lovely treat basket on arrival and big bunch of flowers. Portinscale is a peaceful village, within a short walk to Keswick, and 2 marinas at Derwent Water a few minutes walk away. It is a perfect location for cycling and walking, and ideal for discovering the Lakes. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and didn't want to leave! We would definitely return in the future. Clive and Caroline are lovely owners and nothing was too much trouble, Caroline even accepted our grocery delivery before we arrived and put it all away!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mount. My double room was very comfortable and warm, with a stunning view of Skiddaw. Clive, Caroline, the children and cats were very welcoming and friendly and I appreciated the tasty food cooked on the aga! The delightful garden was full of birdsong, adding to the peaceful feeling in the guest house and Portinscale. It was very easy to drive to from the A66 and easy to get to some stunning walking locations. I would thoroughly recommend this B&B to anyone and look forward to my next visit.

Every little detail was thought of. Clive and Caroline were such wonderful hosts. We arrived to tea and homemade cake, our room was beautiful with lake views. There was the option of fresh coffee and fresh milk in your room which I loved. There were homebaked biscuits and the most comfy bed I’ve ever slept in. Our dog Archie was also welcomed and even given a sausage breakfast! You can walk to Keswick in 15 mins along a lovely footpath but there are also pubs and a cafe within walking distance of the B&B itself. The breakfast was beautiful! We are vegetarians and have never encountered such choice before. Best B&B we have ever stayed in in the lakes. We will be back!
